I don't think they'd really need welding, they're just to oppose the compression from the bolts, which will clamp them against the top & bottom of the box section. The holes are too big to take lateral loads off the bolts, even is it was intended. It would probably be possible to make up an adapter kit. A plate that screws to the top of a 2 bolt subby and provides a threaded hole for in the middle for a single bolt. Or drill the 2 bolt holes with stiffeners top & bottom to transfer the clamping load in to the big bolt spacer sleeve.

you could always make up some extension plates to go from lower subframe mounts to mount under floor if that bothered about cracking toe board obviously would need solid mounts too inplace of rubber or nylon.
I'll be doing this when I get to subframe fitting time. Shouldn't be too difficult to do, in my head it isn't anyway!
