I would say definitely best not to use excessively bright lights anyway you won't make yourself any more visible all it will do is p.ss off everyone...it's just unnecessary beyond a point (in some cases just blatantly inconsiderate)
The same applies to cyclists who think brighter lights are always better. As you say brightness is good - up to a point.

2000 Cooper Sport here. - It did not come with a third brake light from the factory.
I do not find the ROVER factory version very appealing as it is a bit chunky and sits low on the shelf. For a mini; the third brake light needs to be on the top edge of the rear window to be most effective with the extremely large vehicles running around these days!
I have ordered a thin LED strip which should be pretty invisible until it lights up. This will be placed at the top center edge of the rear glass.
I enjoyed seeing all the various solutions so far on here.
I would appreciate insight into how those of you who have added a third brake light have proceeded to do your connections? Di you tap into the wiring? did you tap in at the rear light fixtures? or did you tap into the fuse? I would appreciate the insight as I am horrible at electrics.
Thanks in advance!

I then ran the cables up/down the c pillar.
Make sure you use the correct thickness cable, I can’t remember off the top of my head, someone on here will be able to tell you the correct size.

As above - just tap the existing brake light wiring at the back of the light units. Suspect the side away from the fuel tank will usually be easier to access - then run up your wires to where ever you are attaching your 3rd brake light. Cable size should be less of a worry if you are using an LED as they don't draw a large current. Regular low amp 12v wire should be more than suffient. I keep a separate list of wire colours and fuses (if used) so any subsequent owner can try and follow my incremental wiring .
