I’m incredibly new at this, so apologies in advance. The rolling chassis I bought is rumored to be a 1963. I do not have the slam panel. I have an FE tag located on the left side and also a tag on the right side floor pan. I also purchased an engine block that contains a tag on it, but I highly doubt it is a 1963 engine. Where I am located, I believe I can title this as it is. My concern is that I want to get the correct paperwork for this before I continue fixing it up. What would be the best way to go about this? Thanks.

Hi, if you post some pictures of what you have we would be able to give you a rough idea of age based on certain features that changed over the years.

I think that getting the paperwork sorted out before throwing money and time at something you might no be able to legally get on the road is a good idea.

I would suggest a local classic car club or forum might be able to assist as the law is different state to state. Good luck with it

The Mk1 Forum below should also be able to help date the car:-

FE numbers were rarely recorded but some are. Looking at the date stamp on the wiper motor and decoding the date marks on the glass can help.

minimainia has a good page for decoding the chassis tag.

as your car is an import you may have other tags that were not recorded by the factory as they did not issue them.

post up what you can and we can see what we can help with.

Thanks for the leads, I’ll look at them to help with what I have. Here’s what I have so far:
50-A4485-A-3543-4588-8422-FD8158-C85442.
4576-C003-AA6-E-468-B-95-B9-F08-EB204700
4168-C5-B4-C0-C8-4-EFD-9378-64-B35-F59-D

If there’s any other pictures I can provide that would help, let me know. I will try to find out what the wiper motor numbers are this weekend. Thank you.

Right, looks like it has had a very heavy does of the modding stick thrown at it.

as already mentioned rear subframe is not Mini.

she’ll is pre 76  as solid mounted. External hinges makes it MK2 and before (unless retro fitted) rear end has been deseamed. Drip lip has been removed from roof gutter.

no safety button on drivers door. Was that a UK only thing? Are the doors older?

dual circuit brakes ………..

you need to get someone who really knows their Minis to come and look it over.

lots of what I cam see are wrong even the wiper spindles don’t look Mini. (Could be the photo but look too thin).

My 66 FE number is in the 900,000 range. Yours is 355000 range so maybe  pre 1964.

If you can clean up the body number then applying for a Heritage certificate may give you more details.

I had the registration number and VIN number for mine and Heritage gave me the body number so maybe works in reverse for you.

There will be a date on the wiper motor shiny plate if it's original.

The numbers look like they say DR2 4 60 BN276
I’ll try to get more pictures and clean up the body tag this weekend. I did get a lot of contact information around me through the gentleman I bought this from, so hopefully I’ll find people around me that have gone through this. As far as the doors are concerned I don’t think there is any safety buttons on either door, not sure if the doors were swapped at some point as everything else seems to have been.

The wiper motor date is 4 60 which is April 1960. If you have any original glass then google manufacturer's name for the way to decode the date. My 66 uses Indestructo glass.
