Hello, I have recently purchased what is believed to be a 1963 Mini rolling chassis. I haven’t figured out much yet on this project. The rear drums stick out farther than the fronts and both sets of rims I’ve gotten don’t mount to the drums correctly. I’ve determined the rear drums are at least not from a Mini since they were drilled for the Mini bolt pattern and look nothing like original drums. My question is, based upon the below pictures, does anyone know what is for this car and what is not? The gentleman who sold me this had mentioned it may be a different subframe. At the moment I’m trying to get the wheels on correctly to roll it around and I’m not sure if I’ll just need hubs and drums or a complete rear subframe with arms. Thank you.

Think it would be best to strip everything off the car and buy new....

Looks like a mini frame but certainly some strange bits on there..

Plenty to be getting on with in the meantime.

That's definitely not a mini subframe or radius arm setup.
I'd say that's an Austin 1300 ADO16 rear subframe, radius arms and drums that's been bodged into a mini and rubber cone suspension fitted.

Thanks for the help. I’ll start sourcing parts to rebuild the rear including replacing the subframe.

I agree, it looks very much like and ADO 16 rear subframe.  I wonder why someone fitted it?

Rear subframe is not Mini and it is not Metro.

the brake drums are not off either.

Just use some thing with casters on till you have sourced a Mini rear end.

Yes it has a BMC 1100/1300/Austin America (ADO16) rear subframe and radius arms/drums, plus converted from Hydrolastic to Mini rubber cone suspension.....interesting but seems a very odd modification to do with little gain except a wider track!

Sorry for off-question : what is the color of the green Mini ?

Possibly Willow Green GN33 like the Swiftune Historic race Mini below?

Also it was a common colour for Mini Vans and Pickups in the 1960's.

The gentleman I bought this car from told me his restored Mini’s paint color is called Applejack. I believe he told me that was the original color of the car and he tried to match it from the interior but it might have came out a slight bit darker. I didn’t get any good pictures of his car, he took my wife and I for a drive in it before we loaded the red chassis up. This is the best photo I have of the color itself which he took during its restoration.

I have started a thread on the Mk1 Forum (see link below) to see if any of the early Mk1 Mini 'experts' on there can also help identify your Mini and comment on the very unusual rear subframe modifications.

ADO16 rear subframe in a Mini....

Thanks for that, I appreciate it. I know you’d mentioned that forum before, I forgot to join that one and post so I’ll do that soon.
