The fuel pump on my 1976 1275GT has destroyed itself

That’s not normal, which would suggest

1 I fitted it wrong - it’s has the spacer and one gasket either side

2 It’s the wrong pump for the engine - it came with the car. I have removed it to clean and paint block

3 the arm is bent,  I can’t see any deformation

which pump to replace with?

Engine 1275 no engine number. Can’t tell if it’s the original 1976.

carb HIF44 - possibly from a metro. When I sent for a service the guys replaced the dash pot damper as they said the one fitted was for a metro.  It also had a different butterfly valve shaft

no point in fitting a new one if it’s going to blow another hole

Personally I do not like the mechanical pump as the outlet points to the hot exhaust tubing leaving very little clearence once the outlet pipe is fitted.

Blank off the pump port and convert to an electric pump option, I think they are much safer in this instance and easier to maintain.

Yes, electric pumps are a much better option, facets of the correct pressure, 2.5 psi will just about run forever.

Bit late to the party but I say standard replacement SU mechanical pump.  They work fine.  Yes they are close to the exhaust but they were like this on millions of cars for years with no problems.  Don't over complicate things needlessly.  Just my opinion, if you wish to fit an electric pump go for it.
