Thinking of fitting engine side bulkhead insulation is it best above the wiring or the wiring on top of insulation

I did mine, I did it both inside and outside, the insulation I chose was a Dynamat type, foil backed adhesive foam. This was stuck to the bulkhead, with all other bits lifted out of the way.

Under the bonnet, I removed the wiring loom from the clips, fitted the insulation, then re fixed  the loom back into the clips.
Being foil backed, it does not look “original” I intend to get the black bulkhead insulation and fit this on top of the foil insulation.

How much noise difference did it actually make

I did mine inside and outside. Inside had the fibre type insulation and on top of that self adhesive foil backed closed cell foam. In the engine bay I used just the closed cell foam down to the top of the subframe. Also two layers of insulation every where inside the cabin especially the wheel arches. It made a massive difference to the sound comfort except it took months to trace all the rattles that became obvious when the noise level dropped to an acceptable level. I don’t take the duchess out in the rain but drive it winter and summer every week and not worried about not being able to notice any rust that could possibly develop as it also lives in a dry garage.

And make sure it's a tight fit, right up to the edges and corners. Any gaps and the noise will get through.

I recently fitted some on mine.  I removed everything from the bulkhead, made a cardboard template and then transferred that to the material I was using.  Everything was then refixed to the bulkhead with the insulation in between so everything is still accessible like normal.

I used Dodo Barrier Pro which is a dual layer sheet of closed cell foam coupled with a layer of mass loaded vinyl with the CCF against the bulkhead and the MLV on the outside.

It was a long job to do it all but I'm pleased with the results as it looks neat and like something the factory should have fitted.

Thanks for your replies I have ordered some 10mm closed cell foil backed self adhesive foam and will fix it to the engine side bulkhead with the wiring and bits and pieces on top

I'm planning on doing the same this winter and probably moving some of the bulkhead bits to inside the car. Keep it as clear as possible

Since I have insulated the bulkhead I am unable to hear the indicator relay!  I thought is had gone silent, but can hear it clicking away with the bonnet open, I can just hear it in the car without the engine running.

on the move it can’t be heard!
