Trying to understand something about the history of the *company* Morris Motors Ltd (which isn't the same as the history of the Morris brand).

I know early Minis had "Morris Motors Ltd, Cowley, Oxford" on their chassis-plates, though not sure what year that changed.

I also have a lengthy BMC publicity bumpf ("in colour"!) which shows Mk1 Minis (and other vehicles) in production and also lists one of the (many) individual BMC/Nuffield companies at that time as "Morris Motors Ltd, Cowley".

So the limited company itself certainly survived at least some of the mergers and overlapped Mini production. But does anyone know when "Morris Motors Ltd" was formally dissolved (or, potentially, changed it's company name)?

The Morris brand was subsumed into BMC (1952). And BMC became BMH (1966) though "BMC" branding still seems to have been used after that date. Then the merger with Leyland (1968) but the BMC and Morris brands continued being used. And then the nationalisation becoming BL (1975). Which eventually led to the Morris brand being given the final insult of being stuck onto the execrable Marina. The Morris brand being discontinued in 1987 after a brief stint on the Metro van. This brand history is widely mentioned on-line. But the history of the *limited company* itself is a bit more opaque and doesn't seem to be covered much on-line.

I think you have answered your own question, with your copy and paste from Wikipedia. Companies House isn’t much help, as the only Morris Motors Ltd was registered in 2020.

Someone on here might have further info

Sadly, I've only answered the question I didn't ask :-) I.e. the brand history. But when it comes to the company itself, Wikipedia (and all the other potted histories on enthusiasts' pages) start off by giving details of Morris Motors Ltd's history, but then they veer off into discussing the brand without mentioning the company itself (as in the cut'n'paste above). As you say, Company House wasn't any help which surprised me a bit.

You could try asking on the Morris Engines forum for ex-employees below.

All the A-Series 'S' type engines were produced at the Morris Engine Plant at Courthouse Green, north of Coventry, The forum link below shares ex-employees memories of working at Morris Engines, Courthouse Green. There are some interesting stories and old photos posted there, which might be worthy of some further research.

There was likely more than one company. The brand will have continued in part because there was a chain of franchised dealerships

There is a company I have seen called Morris commercial making electric vans. I don't know if it has anything to do with Morris motors or if they are just copying the name.

It was a separate company.

They have possibly made two vans, their website still says "Use this form to register your pre-order interest. We will start taking pre-orders from Q4 2022. Sign up today to receive 48-hour early access to the pre-order book and secure a priority place in the build queue!"

I can't see them actually selling any vans at this rate, they occasionally send me emails, but it's all fluff.
