Hi, my name is René and I'm from Holland. In oktober I started our project of fitting a Vtec in the mini. I've wanted to make one ever since I heard about tuning the mini with an engine in the back and rear wheel drive. Firts the plan was to make a bike engined one but for practical reasons I waited cause I heard about a Vtec frame the were developing at Zcars. After that came out I was invited by Chris at the tracks in Zolder, Belgium . Absolutely incredible! My mind was made up. The 1300 engine was coming out! In the past two months a lot has happened in the mini. Stripping the car down was the easy part. The back end was cut out and now I'm busy with the body.

We are keeping a website up to date with the progres so if you're interested: middelkoop.myv.nl Just search for 'mini project' and the rest will be clear from there because the site is in Dutch.

Then just some pictures of the progres........

Also to the front what updated. There came what rusts almost by the lake gone on the passage of they baffle to that piece beside the door. (Barns and prepare for stop-roest and plamuur.) Oja! I am there also in successful get the surly grip loose. Was I already a couple turns to started and was in fact frightened that the previous owner these had sealed ofzo. Muurvast! Maargoed, the surly grip zat a beetje rusted and with what "convincing" slaps with the hammer came ie nevertheless loose. Mini is now official hélémaal empty....!!! What also interressant are, and also very it is important, is that I have found a possible welder for lasdingetjes which be done must to the mini. Hopelijk coming we, but there have I trust in! All in all.... It goes simply all by!

Thanks for the quick responds! I hope the car will be awesome too. Surely I will try my best. That babelfish program doesn't understand some tipical dutch words....Obviously.... Funny to read, that's for sure! Made an appointment with the welder to call him just before christmas to make an definate appointment for some welding stuff on the mini. After that the frame can be pre-fitted in the car. I hope to be able order te frame soon...... Still undiscided on ordering the frame with or without the engine.....

Greets to you all!

Firts of all I wanted to say that making this mini is a hell of a job. The preperation of the body takes a lot of time if you want to do a good job. Still working on it in every moment I have (okay, almost every moment.......

Some pics of the work in progress: The old engine bay is coming together nice.....

I've also took the front hubs apart for cleaning and painting. Hope I can finish that this week and then it'll be waiting for the 4 pot calipers and vented discs to make the car stop.....

Cheers mates!

just looked at the pics you need to remove the inner wheel arch part that the radiater went up against at one side and the solid inner wing at the other
otherwise you wont get the front subframe in and your nice new laid down shocks
i onoly say this as it looks like you are painting the front end and its a shame to spoil it now

Chris,

Thanks for the tip.

I can solve this easely. I'll just cut the sides away and surprize the cut with a bit of paint. :D

Hope you like the project by the way..... Still making repairs on the body, afther that it should go faster again.

Cheers

Making the fireworks was pretty cool indeed. Nerve recking too cause I didn't want to make a wrong cut in the frame....

It's not going to stay purple. We've got a few colours but haven't decided for sure.

Chris, 2 quick questions, What diameter pipes did you used for clutch and fuel lines? And which fuel pump? The origional from the type R?

Thanks

René

Been busy today! Went to the paintshop and took home a couple of cans so I had something fun to do today. Oh, and also decided on the colour of the mini. It's going to be in new mini gray. Think it's an awesome colour! First the smaller details on the car will be done, after everything the whole car will go off for a paint job. Think Ady's dad car was the same. Made a simple spray cabine in the garage and went on with it. Results look oké but i'll wait until tomorrw. Things are still in the 'dry box' too so I can't see them anyway....

Put the steeringkolom and the wipermotor in base too so they an be sprayed in colour soon and finished the second box at the banana. Has to be grinded and sprayed with zink before welding. After that it will be sprayed in black (whole inner car will be in black)

Hope ya like!

René
