Hi All, i'm just fitting a digital smiths speedo after my 130mph original speedo decided to go kaput.

I've got a gps veethree sender, with 4 pins, power, ground, kan hi, kan lo.

I've tried to get a speedo cable adaptor with no luck, now the smiths instructions only help for a cable sensor setup, inputting the PPU (pulse per unit).

I've wired the gps sensor hi and lo to the speed signal wire 3 and 2 on the smiths diagram, yet the speedo isn't picking up any signal. Reversed polarity and the same. Inputted the ppu manually 8k or 16k as that what it outputs, no change.

Has anyone fitted the smiths digital speedo with gps receiver, ideally the veethree one?

Thanks!

I've also rang where I bought the speedo from (digital speedos) and because I bought the identical gps unit from elsewhere (not in stock at digital speedos), couldn't have been more unhelpful, not the customer service i'd expect for a £430 unit.

Oh dear.

I was about to put my hand in my pocket to buy a 4" GPS speedo at the Sports Car Show, when someone tugged on my sleeve.

I immediatly thought that he was going to try and pinch my wallet, but he was beckoning me with his head.  He had bought one, He couldn't get it to work and nobody knew anything more than it said on the box and actually blamed him for not knowing how to use it.

Is that gps veethree sender supposed to work with the Smith speedo? I have the Smiths speedo and only one wire is used for speed pulse input, which wire you use depends on whether you have a 2 or 3 wire sender. I'm using the gearbox sender so I don't have any experience of the gps senders. (I'm sure you know this, but the gps senders aren't legal in the UK)

Doing research looks like I might have the wrong gps sender , I got a cheap speedo drive adaptor too, but the square hole is 0.3mm smaller than a mini cable. Nearly impossible finding a sensor in stock anywhere, no one stocks the mini specific senders

Need the car for my 30th on Friday

After some research on this forum I opted for the FX4H sender https://www.sailesma...76AFd2wUYOOcZwU

Put some heat shrink tubing on the end of the adapter, still going at 8K miles.

One of the adapters had the metal sleeve on it, maybe bought from Mini Spares.

DS was sold awhile back, sorry to hear support is not what it used to be.

Finally, sorted!

Rang Demon Tweeks, very helpful, did a 130 mile round trip and got a Haltech Sender.

Instructions clear, PPU given so easy input into the Smiths Speedo. Validation test drive, all working!

Thanks for the help guys, also hope this helps future people
with the same issue. Just shows how customer service should be compared to the shocking one I had with Digital Speedos. Why sell a Mini speedo with no digital or drive adaptors for sale, or even acknowledge this.

anyone want a cheap veehthree sender? haha

I know this is a bit old, but in case anyone finds this thread like I did...

I got the VEETHREE sender working with the Smiths central digital speedo. The issue for me was instructions, or lack of them.

VEETHREE wires:

Red to +12v

Black to ground

White to 2 wire speed signal on the Smiths

Green to ground for 8000 pulse ( or +12v for 16000 - I did not try that )

Set the Smiths to 008000 Pulse as per the Smiths instructions :

https://img1.wsimg.c...r=1708932252642

"Using the push-button in the harness, press and hold the button whilst switching the ignition on.... The speedo is now in programming mode."

Press briefly to go to Pulses per unit, hold to select.

"The row of zeros is to be replaced with your newly
calculated PPU number. Pressing the button momentarily
will increment the last zero (the least significant figure) by
one. Repeat the action until this digit matches the least
significant figure of your new PPU number. When the two
digits match, press and hold the button, the next digit in
line is highlighted. Keep pressing the button
(momentarily) until the second digit matches that of the
new PPU number. Press and hold the button to bring the
third digit into play. Repeat the actions until the full PPU
number is shown.
Note: All six digits must be set ie. including any zeros.
Pressing and holding the button when the last digit is set
will result in the display reading ‘PPU Set xxxxxx.’ Where
xxxxxx is your new PPU number. After approximately five
seconds the display will return to
the main menu ‘Pulses per unit’
heading.’ The new PPU number is
now in force."

I'm still evaluating the effectiveness / accuracy but seems OK on a brief test drive. There is also a "drive to set " option on the Smiths if this 8000 puls setting proves inaccurate.

6/7 months on, still impressed with the speedo, if I did it again i'd get the haltech gps and not even bother with the veethree, i'd also avoid digital speedos and get it from Minispares.

Does your fuel read properly? I'm getting 1/4 tank extra free when I turn on the headlights/sidelights !

Also the tot mileage resets to 0 or 999999.99 every time iginition is off. Pulse setting is still retained tho.

Work in progress on this speedo, must be missing smthin.

By the sounds of that, the Speedo is defective. The Odo should not reset nor be user re-setable. In some countries (like here !) that would be a defect. Just to ask here, are you sure that's the Odo that's doing that and not the Trip Meter ?

I'm also just wondering of there's an Earthing issue, probably with the Speedo, there as well.

I raised a ticket with the manufacturer and another with the supplier. I too would have thought the odo should not be resetable.

The fuel reading might be because I'm using the 12v as per instructions (white) for power to the unit rather than 10v regulated (green). Will try that later if it stops raining ever.

I'm 99% sure the fuel gauge on these doesn't use an external regulator, it's also partly why I raised the question of Earthing.
