There’s a thread somewhere on TMF that has details of a cam sensor using a Hall effect sensor in the timing backplate.

8-Port On An Mpi Block

Well.... the 8 port cams would be on a billet anyway, so it shouldbnt be an issue to get one done with the MPI trigger intstead of a fuel pump lobe, might cost a bit more though.
Alternator location aside, the original 8 port was designed to be run with fuel injection. I've seriously considered building an 8 port on MPI block, mostly as there are plenty of cheap unmolested MPI blocks out there.
The large valve 8 port heads recommend a +60 thou or 73.5mm piston. I understood that the modern Arrow/Saenz conrods will clear the cam lobes. Personally I'd run a pre-verto clutch as there are more options available and use a crank sensor on the crank damper; as opposed to the MPI that uses the flywheel for engine position.
While it's possible to set up a modern ECU without cam position it is a desirable thing to have. On non MPI blocks I've used a modified distributor for this. However, on an MPI block it's not so clear if the existing 8 port cams from MiniSpares/MED would work with the stock MPI cam sensor as I've no firsthand experience with the MPI blocks.

In the early 1960s, a company called "Simms Motors" made a 20 fag packet sized fuel injection unit, that ran off the Formula Junior auxiliary cam gear.
At MIRA,, passing an ultrasonic emitter by a 30MPH restriction sign, they tuned the unit to act as a speed limiter, reversing the process as it passed a derestriction sign.
If that could be done then, speed clearly can't have be seen as more important by the government, than windscreen washers, seat belts, daylight running lights and a ring of stars on the numberplate.......................... if fines could add to their coffers.

If I was more creative I could have come up with a better title. It seems MED can supply all of the parts to make the 8-port happen.
If I win the lottery, what way should I go to get a street-able exotic engine.
Vmax-SCART has the super chargers, SC has an assortment including the MPi turbo, KAD the sixteen valve, 8-port, 7-port?
How about a Ascaso Engineering block as a base?
I seem to remember an article on the Arden stated that ERA looked at the 8-port for their Mini, but decided on the turbo as the 8-port was a little too wild.
All would take some work to make a usable car, but with three Minis, it would be nice to have one that pushes close to the edge.
Interestingly enough Pierce used to be located about 50 miles from me, not sure here they are now.

Same general area, just a little further away.
Which way did you go in the end. I am working on an MPI shell currently, but I intend to go vmax SC in the end. Although 8port could be interesting

I have not won the lottery...yet
Of course you have to buy tickets to win
