Hi all, I m really hoping someone can help me in this one. I have my first classic Mini 46 years after the one I owned after passing my test. The car is a 1981 998 HL and it has the standard 2 clocks. I have bought a wooden dash exactly the same as I had when I was 17! I am desperate to fit with 3 clocks like I had then. Could someone please let me know which clocks I have, which ones will fit please? I don’t know if they are Nippon or not, the Speedo is 110mph, all the ones I see for sale are 90mph, could I fit my speedo in to the new cluster? I am totally confused and lost. I will buy a set of you have ones that fit, I need the car ready for my 63rd birthday as a surprise for my children. If anyone can help please let me know. Thank you.

it is possible to convert a later type setup (with the clocks in front of the steering wheel) to the older centre binnacle setup, but it's not a simple exercise and will take a bit of time

some pictures of the current setup and the speedo (..which sounds like it may be a cooper unit..) you would like to fit would help  ;D

I converted my '89 city from clocks in front of the driver to a central position and from rocker switches to Smiths toggle type. There is a small wiring loom available for the central clocks, converting to central switches involves lengthening some wires to reach. I put some of my switches on a panel with warning lamps) under the driver side parcel tray. One of those circuit testers which are basically a bulb between two wires with a croc clip and a probe are invaluable to working out which wires go where.

I'm always struck how the design of the original central speedometer is timeless.

It just looks good.

it's been upgraded with electronic add ons without affecting it's appearance.

It's even in the David Brown Mini Remastered.
