The engine will start and run on unleaded fuel.

If it does not have hardened valve seats, gradually, the exhaust valves eat their way into the head, and then you have to have hardened valve seats fitted.

The age of the car, and engine number would help someone in the know, to estimate the chances that your engine does or does not have hardened valve seats.

WFM 1024 is on the block, the other engine number has gone when it was skimmed. Would the head casting number help.

Shame about the engine number.

Try googling the casting number, it might lead to further information.

The first time I saw an A+ engine, was the day Mrs Thatcher was elected in 1979, when someone had reversed into a lady's Metro in a car park.

I got involved because I offered to tie her bonnet down with Bailer String to get her home, and noticed the strange block.

It turned out that she was paid to drive hundreds of miles each week to "test" a new engine.

I think that it was about 1990 that I saw the first head with hardened valve seats, so if your A+ engined car was registered between 1980 and 1990, it is unlikely to be unleaded.

My daughter bought her 1988 A+ Mini in 1996 and the first thing we did was send the head away to have it changed to run on unleaded.

Or just use this to be on the safe side, it works perfectly well and negates the need to strip the engine down with all the associated costs.

I worked for BT.in about 1986 the company decided to change to unleaded overnight. They ran a fleet of Maestro vans with A+ motors and did no conversions or adjustments figuring the worst case was burnt valves.I do not remember the workshops being flooded with repairs and the vans were kept for seven years.Just rambling,Steve..
