I have been playing around with a 1.2L  alloy block for some years, to hopefully sit it on a Mini gearbox.

The alloy casting has no provision for thrust bearings on the centre main, so I'm wondering if if would be sufficient to build the web up with Epoxy, to take a Mini thrust washer ?

I'm also wondering whether I actually need a thrust washer on the timing chain side, as it is only on over-run that the helical Diva gear pulls the crank towards the gearbox.

Is there not enough room to have the center web and cap machined both sides to take a trust washer?

The reason I ask is, I did something simillar but not on a mini block.

Whilst investigating options I did find in the Triumph car world they often fix a known thrust washer issue by attaching custom washers with screws.

Take a look here https://www.customth...tions_1_009.htm

My cast bearing caps didn't have enough material to machine to fit washers so I fitted steel caps and had the block line bored and the new washer cutouts machined at the same time.

If you're still using a mini clutch you will need the full 360 degrees of washers on cap and block to take the forces.

@ stoneface & SONSCAR.   Thank you for your input.  I hadn't thought beyond the Centre Main

With 4 of the 5 main bearings, there is not a lot of room to spare for thrust bearings, but with a bespoke front bearing cap, it might be possible to fit a thrust washer.

My steel cap machined for thrust bearings.

I spent quite some time going through the catalogues looking for a standard, readily available washer set, with tang/key version, rather than having to go custom.
