I use the MPI type but I press them in with a steel bush as they are too loose else.

Can't say I noticed any increase in vibration and they haven't melted or broken up. I do still have the big factory fitted penny washer that fits between the bush and the engine block so the bush doesn't try and mould itself into the core plug on a 1275.
My car's a 72 so has the remote gear change housing which gives the stabiliser an easier life too.

I've used poly bushes for years as well. Also with the big washer fitted. Last for years too
I think the OP is asking about the front suspension lower tie bars. I was thrwn by the reference to rose joints but it seems you can actually get rose jointed tie rods.

About a year back, I changed over to the MPI type. It seems there's currently 2 types available, those made to the original specs and others that are a wee bit smaller in diameter and a loose fit in the steady bars.
These that fit properly I found to be quite good and like them over the original 2 piece types, which I also found good, but these I found didn't last too well, especially in recent years.
I did try Poly Bushes a few years back and I gotta say, I found them too hard, they not only transmitted vibration to the body, but engine noise too.

I'm pretty sure from the title, he's talking about Engine Steadies here.

Good point - I didn't realise you could get rose jointed engine steady bars. Instant massive increase in NVH in the cabin.

Resurrecting this thread rather than start a new one - how much play is there meant to be in the top engine steady bush after it is tightened up? I've had a new rubber bush in for a couple of years and noticed now when I rock the engine it moves a little within the bush. Is this normal or should it be solid?

There is some movement as the rubber compresses.

Play vs movement. There should be some movement but NO play.

Are there meant to be any washers on the engine block side?

Play vs movement, good point. I guess most of the movement is the rubber as it compresses when the bar moves, but even though the bolt in the engine block is tight the bush still seems a bit loose?

Washers or spacers depends on the config. What brackets are fitted - does it have a solenoid bracket?
Which direction is the play? Does the engine move toward the front and back of the mini or can the bar be moved sideways.
Which bushes are you using - are you missing sleeves?

Bushes are standard rubber from mini spares and have been in a couple of years with the sleeves fitted
