Apologies if this has been asked before but what spec of jump leads do you carry/use in your mini for jump starting?

Back in the old days when you needed Jump Leads you'd just buy a set of jump leads, nowadays (at Halfords at least) there's leads for up to 1.2L, 1.8L, 3.5L etc etc all with different cable ratings.

Car is a 998cc so I'm assuming the up to 1.2L with 10mm2 cable area seems to be the correct choice, but what are the pro's/con's of buying larger cable area size in regards of jump starting performance and/or electrical safety?

Buy the largest square area cables you can afford. I've just bought these from Amazon

Sakura Extreme Duty Booster Cables Jump Start Leads SS3627 - 700 Amp 4 m Colour Coded Clamp - For Cars Vehicles Up To 4.5L/4,500CC. £21.54 and they're good.

Dont bother with jump leads get yourself a portable jump pack for under £100, i use a noco gb40 but other brands are available, i know they are more money but you dont need to rely on another car to jump from plus you can charge phones and tablets off them too.

Like minimat, I have a NOCO GB40. It’s easier to store than a set of decent jump leads, and has the benefit that you don’t need another car!

Make some out of welding cable, most of the ones in stores are rubbish. I have some old ones which will start engines without having a battery installed, cheap ones I had wouldn't even start a lawn mower. The size of cable depends on the length you want and if you need them for larger vehicles.

Got mine from Argos. They work on the 998 Mini and on a 2litre Renault.

+1 for the NOCO GB40 (or other similar devices). Fits in a small case, don't need another car, has a torch, can charge USB devices.... no brainer IMO. Just remember to keep it charged.
