I've been looking at diagnostic tools for my 1994 SPi and was wondering if anyone could help me decide which route to take and answer a few questions I have.

It seems I have two diagnostic tool options:

·      Set myself up with one of the apps which are available for an android phone or tablet (MEMS_Diag app / Rover MEMS ECU Diagnostic) or

·      invest in the Sykes Pickavant ACR2 diagnostic tool.

From what I can see the SP ACR2 and the Android apps allow users to see live data such as engine speed, coolant temp, lambda volts etc, etc. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find an instruction manual for the SP ACR2 so I can’t work out if it offers any more functionality than the Android apps.

1.     Do any of you know if there is any difference in the functionality of these two options?

2.     Also, does anyone know if there any advantages / disadvantages to these two options?

Although I’m not rolling in money it’s the functionality I’m interested in rather than the price, I’d rather spend a bit more and get the best tool than try to save a few pounds and always wonder if it was the best option.

I have the ACR4 which is basically the same as the ACR2 but displays 4 lines of data instead of 2.

The ACR does not allow live logging of data and it is not easy to review data while driving.

I have an MPi and I find the logging of RoverMEMS beneficial. Hopefully someone else will respond and give some feedback on RoverMEMS for the SPi

I have found memsFCR a useful tool for my SPI.  I use a Win10 laptop as the android app said it wasn't compatible with my android tablet for some reason (its old).  Only niggle is Win10 is bothersome setting up the drivers and I frequently have to play with that to get it to connect to the ECU.  Logging is very useful as mentioned.

I have also found memsFCR (and web.memsfcr.co.uk) helpful on my SPI. Being able replay logs is very useful.

MEMS_Diag app / Rover MEMS ECU Diagnostic  is also useful to get info at a glance if no PC available

I have not used ACR2/4 so cannot comment  :proud:

Do any of the apps provide the ability to adjust the stepper on the SPi? A useful function that the ACR provides with certain pods.
