Hi all,

Just bought my first Mini after driving a lot of aircooled VW's (beetle 1970, Beetle 1961, T2 camper).

I always wanted to have a classic Mini and after selling the T2 last year, I missed having something to drive occasionally when the weather is nice.

Recently, a 1990 Mini came across and I just wanted to have it.

It has 2 pre-owners which were brothers. It is an original Dutch registered 1990 Mini 1000 Racing in British Racing Green, all original except the sunroof. Has some small work.

Hoping to find a lot of helpful information on this forum.

Below some pictures of the Mini, and for those who are interested, of the VW's as well.

Welcome! Nice example you have there....looks very original from what I can tell. I have a 1990 Flame Red which is identical to your Racing Green in everything but colour. The wheels are original as they have the wheel nut holes in line with the spokes as per the RSP of 1990. Your sunroof may also be 'original' in that they were offered as an optional extra at purchase. Mine also has one (same units that went into RSP's). Mine is a Unipart branded sunroof and was fitted as an optional extra.

Rareish cars now in original condition as they were a limited edition at the time (Racing Green, Flame Red & Checkmate) all of 1990.

🙂

Thanks for the reaction and the additional info! I already found more info about the Racing Green, Flame Red and Checkmate, but couldn't find more info about the sunroof. Will check as soon as the car has arrived in 1,5 weeks if I can find some brand logo or so. Car indeed looks very nice, some small paint repairs but nothing large.

If you have any Q's just shout...there are a few owners here on the forum.

My factory fitted sunroof has a big Unipart logo on the winding lock on the inside, so if yours is the same you can't miss it 😉

I bet you can't wait for it to arrive...and with the better weather {hopefully} on its way!

Surely some questions will arise as soon as the car is here. Indeed I cannot wait but I have to travel for work next week, so in the meantime the car gets new MOT.

Got some small plans with the car; Get is as clean and polished as possible, drop it a bit and wider wheels I guess.

But we will see ;)

I've put hilo's on mine to lower it just a little along with adjustable regular height (not lowered) dampers and then popped 165/60 12 Yoko's on the standard wheels (same wheels as yours). This then makes the wheel/tyre fill the wheel arch nicely (like the old 10's do on older minis), without affecting the quality of the ride too much. Standard they sit a little high and the original tyres make it look even worse. Good luck with the mods and keep posting pics....we all love a nice pic 🙂👍👍👍

Thanks! really liked the aircooled VW's as well. Now it is time to see if I will have the same amount of fun in the Mini but I'm quite sure I will!

Keep you guys posted. As soon as the Mini is here, I will keep a project topic I guess, with updates and pics!

Read about HiLo's as well, need some sort of compressor or so. Time to dive more deeply in it.
