any one done anything different with the exterior door handles??

 

im sure i saw on here something to do with metro ones?

 

just wondering if anyone has done somethying like this or completely different?

 

ive seen a tik tok of a guy shorterning some his corvette handles which looked quite cool and they looked similar to the mini ones thought i might have a go, was just wondering if someone had done anything

The Aussie build cars have ones that look a bit like metro ones.  But yes many have been fitted and they have even been removed.

the handle itself is easy,  like any metal work you just cut out the old and weld in the new, obtaining donor metro doors isn't very hard

 

the awkward bit is that the mini handle is a simplistic design which just presses directly onto the lock mech

 

whereas the metro (and other) types are a rotating lever which operates via a rod or bar as a linkage

 

look at page 4 of my build (link below) and you'll see where I got with it. I must stress that isn't a final design yet, I've got the geometry down now but the actual linkages need work in terms of strength and longevity

 

removal would be very easy, just reskin the door, which is handy because to be honest I'm still in 2 minds about it really

I’ve fitted some flush door handles from a Suzuki swift .

I had a complete car  that I was breaking so I cut out  a small section of the door skin including the handles then cut the same out of the mini doors  welded the new ones in job done .

This is true, but there's also the interior release mechanism, though you'd have to avoid the window glass. One that operates via  a cable could offer more flexible options, like the MINI.

I was just going to leave that as-is, it connects to a different part of the mechanism on the other side of the window track

 

but yes somehow doing it by cable could be interesting..

 

definitely working around the window track is the no1 problem.  if you have old horizontal slidey windows you're laughing
