My 59D distributor mechanical advance mechanism has dried out.

I need to disassemble and relube it.

Are there any official or recommend types of lubricant that should be used?

I have always just used a little engine oil, make sure you keep it to a minimum as you don't want it getting on the points

But as the bob weights are hidden away it would be very hard for any lube to get up to the points.

but I would not use engine oil. Just strip and clean everything up and use some light oil.

Apologies for the misleading thread title. It is more to do with the what the advance mechanism pivots on, rather than the mechanism itself.

I believe my problems are because the oil has dried out over several years of storage. So there is mechanical resistance between the two shafts

Although obviously regular oiling of the pad under the rotor arm would have avoided my current situation. I thought perhaps something more synthetic/newer/PTFE would be better than just some normal engine oil?
