Morning all,
We took our 72' clubman out for a Sunday driver yesterday and it developed an unpleasant vibration sound in the engine, this occurs when idling, and when driving through all gears, but not when the clutch is depressed. people with infinitely more knowledge than me have suggested it sounds like a bearing in/around the gearbox, most likely the input shaft bearing.
I guess my questions are as follows:
1- As a non mechanically minded person, is this something that can be done DIY with the aid of a Haynes Manual or like I suspect will I be employing the talents of a local mechanic?
2- What kind of financial pain am I looking at to rectify this, hundreds or thousands?
3- Are there any works worth undertaking at the same time assuming the engine will need to come out?
4- Can anyone recommend a Mechanic is the South Somerset (Ilminster) area?
5- Is it safe to drive to said mechanic or should I be looking at getting it trailered?
thanks in advance for any help/advice/recommendations
