I am given to understand that Mini Magazine is closing and the last issue will be the April one this year.

What a pity.

That's a shame I found it to be a good magazine for the mini .

I prefer Miniworld magazine which was first appeared in newsagents back in 1991 (from the publishers of CCC/Triple C magazine/Cars and Car Conversions)....but I guessed Mini Magazine which came along as a rival mag in 1996 would eventually close, as both are now owned and published by Kelsey and more or less target the same readers.

 

Modern MINI/Performance MINI magazine was also recently closed by Kelsey and the early R50/53 MINI articles introduced to the back pages of Mini magazine.

Mini magazine said one of the reasons for introducing the early R50/53 MINI's to the magazine is because these are now the 'entry level' cars for many Mini/MINI enthusiasts, due to the high prices of all classic Minis, even rough project cars needing major restoration work:-

I had every issue up until December '22, when I cancelled my subscription. The magazine had become increasingly anodyne and the inclusion of Binis was the final straw.

Pity - I really enjoy each month getting the mag delivered and sitting reading it (with a beer usually!) so will be down to one, assuming MiniWorld carries on in print format

 

When people (well Lowestoftmodder!) say "Not much call for mags anymore" - why is that - is it because you can find most things online? - will MiniMagazine carry on online or is it going completely?

 

I thought books would disappear once the Kindle was invented but my wife had one and its just not the same experience for me or here (and no, I can't explain why)

Probably because of my age - I guess the latest generation is brought up mainly using electronic access to data

 

 

I also wondered how you could have both mags under one publisher, and I was also a bit disappointed with the inclusion of BINIs (nothing against them just "I ain't bovvered") 

 

I too have every issue from No.1 on. (and Miniworld...)

 

Maybe just my perception but recently (last year or two) I felt that MiniMagazine featured more modified cars whereas MiniWorld seemed to have more standard (or less modified) 

 

Perhaps Miniworld could get bigger and include a couple more cars each month that they might not have included.

It’s still allowing both mags to be subscribed to for the next 6 months plus so seems to be all systems go.

Out the two I prefer Mini Mag as there is more modded content than mini world.

I hope at least one keeps going as I still enjoy a mag to read than a digital version.

Ah! Triple C, as we called it, was the best car mag ever. Lots of interesting Mini articles, especially the ones by Clive Trickey. I have a collection of his books on my bookshelf.

 

We have a subscription to a Mini mag called 'Maxi Austin'. Lots of good articles. One small problem - it's in French!

So, I have to say this is absolutely brilliant news for the Mini community, not that a much loved magazine is disappearing (I've always preferred Mini Magazine out of the two), but that the we will only have one Mini related magazine.

 

I've not been able to get my head around why the same publishing house have published (lets be honest here) the same magazine with a different title for around 10 years now. I know everyone tries to say that the magazines are different, but they're not really that different, they both features Mini's, they both have articles about Mini's and they both have the same advertising listings, from the same Mini related businesses in them.

 

20 years ago, the market was different and both magazines were regularly packed with stunning feature Mini's, this isn't the case these days, as the Mini community has changed considerably.

 

With only so many magazine worthy feature Mini's a year rolling off from restorations and only so many Mini related articles that can be wrote a year, things have become very watered down and very repetitive, in an attempt to fill two magazines (26 editions a year), in a market that has shrunk.

 

I personally think that one Mini focused magazine will completely rejuvenate the Mini paper magazine market and give it the uplift that it's been crying out for.

 

Only the best Mini's will be featured (which is what we all want to see in a magazine that we've paid for) and articles (how to kind of articles) won't have to be repeated on such a regular basis.

 

Plus, as there will only be one Mini related magazine sales of that one magazine will increase, which over time will make it a better magazine, as they will increase the resources pumped into each edition.

I agree it is probably an age thing but I still prefer a print format magazine, book or newspaper. However I can see in times of high cost of living the cost of a magazine is one of the first things many will cut back on.

From a business case point of view it makes sense for Kelsey the publishers to have one classic Mini magazine in Miniworld and move most Mini Mag subscribers over. When Modern MINI/Performance MINI mag closed recently they moved subscribers over to Mini Mag and added some MINI feature pages but that was only ever going to appeal to owners of both cars. I was always surprised Mini Mag did not close soon after Kelsey took it over a few years ago when they already had Miniworld covering the classic Mini market.

I haven't read either for a few years but they always had a 'People's Front of Judea' vibe about them, with their respective editors constantly sniping at each other.

back in the day one used to be mainly home or diy builds and the other chequebook builds. now both seem to cover same so agree may be a good thing. do still enjoy paper edition though

However Performance MINI magazine (formerly Modern MINI) has already been closed down last year by Kelsey with the Autumn 2022 issue.

Early MINI (R50/53) articles were then transferred to the back pages of Mini Magazine but in the current market it does seem to make sense for the publishers Kelsey to now merge Mini Mag into Miniworld.
