I'm wanting to get my 1275 engine rebuilt and back in my mini, I'd like to tackle it myself but if I'm honest with myself, I'm not sure I have the time or space to do it in the near future.

 

So, I'm looking for recommendations of companies to undertake the job? I'm located in Bordon, Hampshire, and would prefer to not have it done a huge distance away from me.

 

Online I've found 'Classic & Modern Engine Services Ltd.' in Bracknell who appear to have good reviews. Has anyone had any experience of them undertaking a A series rebuild?

I’m in London, however I have workshop space in Hants, I couldn’t find anyone local. So I sent my engine to Bromsgrove engine services, on a pallet via palletways, was good value pre Covid.

There was a wait, but worth it, they know what they are doing

Is it still in one piece or dismantled ?

Does it need machining and parts ?

Do you have the parts needed to rebuild it ?  ..  If it is just rebuilding it, most family garages with a 50 year old mechanic would probably do it for cash in an evening.   Anything more, get it all done by one company.

Bill Richards racing has premises in Ashford and the isle of wight and obviously travels between.

Knowing Bill, I bet he would even pick up and drop off your engine on the way through.

 

He has done a few for me now and I've also installed engines on his behalf and he's very good to deal with

A second for Oz at OAP. Near Gatwick which is only a clip round the motor way.
He might even pick up and deliver if you ask nicely.

My experience with Classic and Modern was not so great.

I've only used them once so only have the one experience to go on.

Next time I need anything done I'm going to contact OAP as I've heard good things.

I had a Minispares (Bill Richards 1293 short engine) fitted by Ben at Mill Road garage, Ben stripped the old engine, skimmed the head and reassembled the engine and fitted a reconditioned gearbox, before re-installing it.

The whole experience was straightforward and also I combined the drop off and pick up with some nice short breaks on the isle of wight.

I have done about 9,000 miles on the new engine and its running great.

I have done them for him in the past at my workshop on the isle of wight as he wasn't set up for it at his new premises here.

Not sure if that's changed now, best bet is to give him a call and ask
