Hi all

I am looking at replacing my air filter, in my 998 - HS4 SU

Looking at a K&N, Fletcher or Med Engineering.

Both a similar price (K&N & Med ) Fletcher significantly cheaper but does anyone have a preference?

I like the sound of the K&N, but it might be a little loud on a long trip, but I'm also not sure how loud the Med Eng one is/gets?

The Med eng filters seems to flow well and looks nice, possibly better than K&N in all regards, but can anyone advise on the noise comparison?

Let me know what you use instead?

Thanks

Thanks for the answers.

Has no one any comments on the Med Engineering filter?

Still likely to need a richer needle.

Standard paper filter in the original housing will give the best filtration and thus prevent a dusted engine.
You are unlikely to notice any increase inperformance anyway.
After market filters are designed to trap car owners not dirt.

I put a KN cone on my 998/HS4 for a bit of fun. It made a cool noise but I didn’t find it annoying on long trips.

I checked before and after with an afr gauge and in my particular setup it didn’t make any difference (previously I had a KN element in the std airbox). The filter area of a KN filter in the stock HS4 airbox is pretty huge and wouldn’t be a restriction on a 998

I put a K&N element in mine, simply because I can use it again, and again, and again. Parts availability, even for an air filter, is challenging in my country. Yes you can order from Minispares, but not worth it for just one filter. K&N is well known and have enough parts here (including the cleaner solution) to be more cost effective.
