Hi

I've just bought a mini van and the switch panel is clearly the wrong type, can anyone tell me what I need to put back to original please?

Also do van's have heaters? because this one doesn't

It's a 79' T reg

Thanks

Nick

Going by the pedal it's  post '76 so I don't think it'll be far off. A heater (or screen demister to be accurate) was a legal requirement , but not exactly sure from when.

as above - that switch panel is from a saloon

the somerford panel Ethel has linked to would allow for an extra switch (typically rear fog lamp) as well as the usual headlights, hazards and brake reservoir test switches.

Mini Van production history is very similar to the Mini Pickup so you might find the link below useful as a reference.

My van is the same year.  It originally came with a three switch panel with two visible crosshead retaining screws at each end.  Not the prettiest arrangement - I've since replaced mine with the switch panel you have mounted in the trim which runs across the width of the vehicle as fitted to the cars of the same era.  It brings the switched a few inches closer too.  You need two brackets for the panel if you wished to do this.  I think vans of this age would have all come with a heater.

Pretty sure all uk vehicles had heaters, though some may well not have had a fresh air inlet through the bulkhead and just been "fug stirrers"..  I suggest yours is an ex South Aftrica van which seem not to have had heaters fitted.

i have a 1974 south african van - no heater not needed out there and seats covered in fabric as leather/vinyl would be too hot

Heaters were often optional extras on British cars but you probably have to go back to the sixties and earlier for this to be the case.
