So hopefully now that I've sold on my Clubman I'll be able to get myself a new project mini but one tool that I will need is a decent DA sander. My single phase compressor is simply no use to drive an air powered DA so it will need to be a 240v one. I have a good square pad one but I want to have the choice of different round discs and upto very fine grades for polishing but is the da polishers that are also advertised as sanders really up to the job as a sander? I would think that there's no reason why not but would like to hear experiences of those who have these and use them for actual sanding. Can I also get recommendations for certain makes too please? I may well get a mini DA sander but may end up getting an air powered one in that size as I can't seem to find a 240v one. Cheers!

No,a da sander is different from a da polisher,a polisher doesn't go fast enough to sand, well it does but it would take a long time

That's pretty much what I was fearing Vanman, I'll have a good trawl through the lists of actual da sanders and leave the polshers, even though the label them as sanders as well, to just polishing. Cheers.

Some of the specs you should be looking for for bodywork.
150mm diameter backing pad for widest choice of discs.
5mm orbit for optimum sanding.....2.5mm is used for finishing grades before polishin 10,000 rpm or thereabouts ideally.
Mirka deros is used by the trade but is very expensive.Sealey do a cheaper version as do other brands.

Yeah it'll be something like a Sealey or Makita as it'll be just for home use.

the best? or one that will do the job?

i have one of CTHESE!! CLICK HERE

what you need is it to have adjuster for the speed, and thats about it. this is 125mm and you just buy 125mm discs off ebay, or like these on amazon

you also need an interface pad for bodywork really.

I have the Mirka Ceros, and it's one of the best power tools I own. It has the lightweight feel of an air sander (as has a low voltage motor with separate powerpack). More powerful than and air sander, and has electronic speed control, so it doesn't matter hoe hard or not you press then sander onto what you're sanding, the speed (which can be adjusted) remains the same. Also it has a 6" pad, so you can used standard discs.
