1993 Mini sprite

I'm planning to change the main 4 way fuse box and the 6 inline fuses to spade fuses on the above car.

Experience has told me to check the forum before any drastic changes to the car and I'm glad I did.

Various contributors have confirmed that when replacing the original glass fuses with spade fuses the amp rating of the spade fuse

should be halve that of the glass fuse. If there is no exact halve rated spade fuse available then the next size slightly up in rating should be used.

I thought that the amp rating of a fuse no matter it's type was always the rating on the fuse. A fuse rated say 10 amp either glass or spade should break at the nominal rating of 10 amps.

I have looked at the forum pages but cannot find an explanation why there is such a difference in rating between glass fuses and spade fuses.

Can anybody provide an explanation?

I'm thinking of doing the same after several occasions when wires have melted but the (glass) fuses haven't blown even though the circuits should have been protected (lights mainly). I was thinking of leaving the standard setup in place on the bulkhead for originality but adding a spade fuse box under the dash in the hope that these will actually protect the wiring.

This is the wrong section to be asking and answering the question raised.

Moving to correct section but also as Nick has alluded to, its in the FAQ's
