I think people are getting a bit carried away here. The issue that brought discussion about was almost certainly caused by a misunderstanding by the DVLA staff. I know that doesn't help the poor chap with the redundant car, but it's not something that we have to worry about imo. But as I suggested earlier, getting an organisation involved would probably help going forward.

It's not something we have to worry about, until they're allowed to get away with it. At any point one of us could let slip that someone's cut out our rear parcel shelf for some 6x9's, or that we drilled a hole in the bulkhead to pass through some wiring and find our V5 is seized and our car is essentially a garden ornament from that point onward.
It needs dealing with because the DVLA can't be allowed to arbitrarily removed perfectly legal cars from the road without recourse.

Perfectly put!
So what are you currently doing to sort the issue?

I have informed a number of news desks and journalists.
Also informed motoring federations and MPs.
A number of firms offering electric conversions are on board and looking at a more litigious approach.
And I’ve asked for details from the DVLa to stop them moving the goalposts again.
Once I have the inspection report I’ll be starting a parliamentary petition once I have decided the wording, if they still haven’t changed their mind, although it would be a good idea to get clarification on whether they intend to carry on regardless of my case as they could easily use same interpretation of rules to hit say max power gang or hot rods etc etc.

What response have you had from them?
Have you contacted the HCVA as I suggested?

Yes, no response as yet.
A couple of journalists have said they would like to do a piece but they are holding fire.

As the first line of that statement is slanderous, I think the chances of a positive outcome is some where between Bob and no.

Is this also happening in other countries?
I'm not one for conspiracy theories but is this the start of Claus Schwab and his muckers' quest to remove private cars from individuals?

The legislation was passed a few years ago to align us with Europe, so although we're out we've not out out to use a phrase from a well known comedian

I just got an email from Minisport, stating that they are now parteners with Recharged Heratige Ltd, who convert classic cars to electric.
Apparently, they have limited availability for 2023 so It will be interesting to see if they have any problems with DVLA.

I like the part ' DVLA registration assistance ' so in other words they will sell you the car but not register the conversion, seems a bit half arsed to me. And could all end in tears like the poor sod who started this thread.
