Hi all

I'm using my mini a lot more in the countryside now (moved back to the Highlands of Scotland), and I want a bit more light when driving at night.

I know most modern cars/vans which have spotlights have the LED bars, however I think I would rather round spotlights to keep the appearance of the mini looking classic.

Any ideas?

thanks

Alasdair

Early Mini, 1960,s, used to run with Lucas spotlights. They were 6" diameter and I think they were LR14 or Sabres.

I think the Cibie ones are well thought of. I can't remember the model number though.

those led light bars are rubbish unless you spend a fortune. A good spot light that would suit a mini is a KC daylighter, they do some chrome ones.

You can get some smaller PIAA ones too, but they can be pricey, but they work, i run the bigger ones on my road rally car.

They were Lucas 700's, 7 inch.

I have a pair of Cibie Oscars whilst they aren't the smallest the light output is excellent all down to good reflector design as I think the only have 55w bulbs in.

LEDs have really taken over and its hard to find classic spotlights that suit a mini.

I bought a cheap pair of 8 inch spotlights from Ebay for £45 a couple of years ago - they are as good as I can drive - i.e. I can see as much as I can drive into at the fastest speed I can (dare!) drive into it (in the dark).

Maybe you'd need better if you're a professional?

Don't know if these are any good  - probably not as good as the real thing?

Yeah these https://www.demon-tw...0-lp570-990404/ PIAA ones look nice. I'm not sure if these LEDs just take a 12V feed though, like a classic spotlight does.

Do you have a picture of them on the car? And the mounting bracket? I don't want the spotlights to wobble around!

put a stead on the top of the light to the front panel, i use a cut juberlee clip on my rally car

I do like the Cibie Super Oscar driving lights. Mine have 100 watt halogen bulbs.
For a more period look the Lucas SLR700 is good with halogen bulbs. They are often called 'Flamethrowers'.
