Looking for some advise regarding brakes. I have a mini Van which has had a Rover K series engine put in along with the running gear from an mg f/tf. It currently has standard tf brake 240mm discs with single pot standard callipers. It does really need a brake upgrade but i don't really want to start putting bigger wheels over than 13". I just wondered if anyone had any ideas or experience with this. I did wonder if the mg metro flange would fit on the tf but I'm not 100% sure that would work.

Would appreciate any help. if more info is need let me know

thanks again

Reece

Sounds like they are big enough as it is.

what are the hubs? What is the PCD? Look for MGf/tf upgrades rather than the smaller Mini ones.

Thanks for the quick reply. Hubs are from a mg tf along with the brake discs and callipers. PCD is 95.25mm.

Thanks again

The mg f/tf upgraded brakes are either 280mm or 304mm which would mean I need to put 15/16” wheels on the van. Which I don’t really want to do.

Anything Mini or Metro (as opposed to Rover 100) will be 4 inch PCD.

Slightly confused, what end is the engine at?

Right you want smaller discs but using the MGF running gear.

nothing Mini will be a straight swap. The Rover 100 discs and calipers might. But again not Mini wheels due to the Rover 100 not having the same PCD as the Mini and early Metro.

..might be worth looking at this, if you haven't already

http://mgf.ultimatem...rakes/index.htm

standard MGF/TF discs according to that page are 240mm so should be more than capable of stopping a mini - what is the issue with the current setup ?

I'm using Metro GTI/MGF brakes in my K20 powered Metro, the key is to use good pads (Mintex F4R) not cheap though £170 ish for the pads...

Check what master cylinder you have and also what size rear salve cylinders you have also.  Might be a mix of a good few bits and bobs and that can lead to a dead feeling at the peddle.

So I just learned it's the same CV Joint on 100s & MGFs (F&R), Maestros & Montegos share plenty of bits too
