The object of this tool was to snug the worn part of the rocker to the valve stem thus eliminating any error with using even a cut down feeler blade.

By cut down I was referring to thinning the blade lengthways so that it fitted into the worn part of the rocker.  As I said I have one of those tools but prefer to use feeler blades.

The worn rocker I had had an exact circular hollow in it, as I say about 0.5mm deep, that the valve stem could sit in. So no way could a blade thinned length ways have been any good, it would still have stopped the rocker closing down to the correct gap setting to the top of the valve stem.

Surprised me too. no idea why it went like that. One of the other rockers was beginning to show the same circular hollow but was not making any noise. Naturally I replaced that one as well.

I will be keeping an eye on those two.

As the valve is depressed the rocker face should "wipe" across the top of the valve stem, so I would suggest that maybe the valve guide is so worn the top of the valve stem is moving with the rocker face and staying in the same place on the rocker?

When I replaced the rockers I checked and there did not appear to be any excessive movement of the stem in the valve guide.
