Just after some general (current) knowledge on the art of sleeving cylinders.

Sleeves - are they readily available ( I have heard of stock shortages)

Are there some better than others - types to look for?

My understanding ( limited ) was that old style pressed in sleeves could distort the block if needed in multiple ( so not able to resleeve all 4 cylinders) ( if true how dated is this info)

My understanding ( see ABOVE) is that newer ones are interference and glued - and now you can say take a 1330 back to standard 1275 ( all 4 cylinders)

What is the useability of a sleeve ( eg I initially resleeved to standard from 1330, can i go to 1293 or 1310 on the same sleeve)

And finally if i have a 1360 offset bored block , still able to be sleeved ?

Any other useful or interesting info , including your experiences both old and new encouraged. Cheers

I once spaced the bores and sleeved a Clubman block, to fit 74.5mm pistons. (1420cc)

I had to tweek the head gasket between the outer bores, but it held 5 lb boost from my old Shorrock.

I seem to recall the piston rings would need to match the "sleeve" material, just saying as your choice of sleeve may be limited to the rings you can get or have.

I have sleeved a few blocks though not for a little while now. Pretty much anything up to a +60 on the stock bore ca be done no sweat. Over that, it depends on how much meat is left between the centre bores and what condition the existing bore is in as the bores need a 'sweep' to clean them up to ensure good contact between the sleeve and the bore. Your machine shop man should be able to guide you there. It also depends on what you intend to do with the engine. If it's something that's going to see high cylinder pressures, there's some risk of cracking here.

I've always used Loctite when fitting them, not just to help retain them (it's not likely they'll walk anyway) but to give some lubricity to help them go in. Grade 638 off hand. I've used Repco & ACL Seeves (one and the same) and there's been a couple of other brands. I've always found that sleeved bores last way way longer than just running rings on the block's cast iron. Done right, I feel it gives a superior engine.
