Am looking at removing my under rear seat 6x9 speaker board and installing something on the parcel shelf. I recall from my college days in the early 90’s I installed a pair on the parcel shelf and they sounded super! Someone told me the boot space was like a huge air enclosure for them! Don’t know if that’s BS or not! They definitely sounded good being driven from just the head unit.

I’ve got an amp running the 6x9’s but my current Alpine HU has failed so replacing with something Bluetooth compatible but was wandering about installing speakers onto parcel shelf. I guess the tank will get in the way?

I managed to get 10 x 7 kenwoods 240 watt back in the day. Didnt need a sub. They sounded incredible with a 2x150 watt amp
Thwy were tight though.
I sat them on top of the parcel shelf. Then cut some mdf to sit over the top and covered that in acoustic cloth. Put a fake speaker box in the middle just to make it look like it had the original mono speaker in there

most 6x9's are designed for free air use, not boxed, besides they're quite small anyway so the size of that boot is probably too big to be considered as adding anything of value in terms of resonance or whatever (we're not talking about sub frequencies or anything)

 

on the other hand, the space under the rear seats is tiny and if you're boarded right across it with no gap or vent then it could be restricting the air movement, not to mention being at floor level and pointing straight at the bottom of your front seats or being muffled by anything you leave in the rear floor area 

 

either way the rear shelf is a much better option if you're not against the cutting of holes which might make some people cringe (not me)  or perhaps mounting them in the side bins pointing upwards maybe in which case I'd probably be tempted to include a vent (or just not fully enclose it) to allow air to move but that's just a gut reaction not based on anything scientific or measuring the space or anything.  Amped will always be better of course but where to put it..

 

loving the stealth idea though that's a nice touch
