I was thinking of fitting these to my cars, as they do sit for a while in between use and it would save battery drain, and less hassle than having to find a spanner and mess about!

Has anyone ever used these, or could recommend a better brand, the Amazon ones seem a bit crap, going by the reviews

Or Halfrauds?

They're really intended for leisure batteries to allow quick and easy removal from caravans etc. and even then they're not brilliant.
I personally wouldn't use them on a car battery that sees high current draw during starting.

A better approach would be a dis-car-nect and leave the low current bypass fuse out:

I use a battery cut off switch, it's as much for safety in the case of a fire as it is for stopping battery drain. https://www.autoelec...152/category/30

The best battery isolators are made for the marine sector.

I bought one of these thinking it would be one you mount to the terminal then attach the cable to it somewhere but it's not.

How did you install it? Also did you put it in the boot near the battery or within reach of the driver?

It'd be nice if I was able to put it under the dash or somewhere, so I could unlock the door get in and reconnect the battery then start up.

 - just thinking out loud really.

Mine's slightly different as it's in my van (which isn't a Mini). It's mounted close to the battery but there's no reason that you couldn't mount it in the boot. It's in the earth cable. This picture probably doesn't help.

Edit: am I doing something wrong that puts the pic sideways?
