I was thinking of just undoing the cable on the gearbox end to test. Is this the best way to test?
That's what I's suggest as that'll stop the cable spinning.
There a few ways to get to the gearbox end of it, these days, I jack up the passenger's side quite high (so the engine oil doesn't leak out), pop the top ball joint, than take out the Pot Joint, reach up from under, it's 'right there'.
That pot removal trick worked a treat and as you know I am getting pretty good at splitting those ball joints which has seemed a weekly occurrence since slowly replacing nearly my whole front end looking for this elusive squeaking/scraping noise.
Anyway great news, the noise has gone. Not one chirp, squeak or scrape.
This was doing my head in.
So I have ordered a new 36inch speedo cable, hopefully that is the right length. I think it is a bit longer than my original but that is what I was recommended by the guys at Minisport in Adelaide?
So a big Thankyou to @MacGyver and @Spider.
