Fitting Outer Cv's

Best Answer maystro , 06 May 2022 - 11:31 AM

Thanks guy's again.

I used your trick to deburr the shaft and turn the corners in on the c clip and now I have both drive shafts fitted with 4 new CV joints both ends and inner pot joint shells installed.

Just waiting till tomorrow where I can take my hub to work and remove and replace one of the ball joints which needs a rattle gun or a bigger vice?

Thanks very much.

Brad

Yep the joint splits by turning the inner part 90 dec to the outer and removing the balls one at a time. If it is a new joint it should not matter in what order the balls go back but if the joint is used the balls must go back in the same possition.

With the joint in pieces there is no chance of contamination of any grease remaining in the joint from the grinding operation.

Thanks guys,

I had a better look at the drive shaft and it did have some small burs which I managed to file out. I massaged my old c clip again in a vice to get it as small as possible to just fit over the splines and hey presto she slid in place without the need for Thor's Hammer.

Thanks again.
Brad.
