Hi all.
Progress has been a bit patchy since the last update due to being on and off the island dealing with a family emergency.
Anyway, here is the latest progress.
Following on from last time, I ground up the welds on the floor pan repair
Next, I liberated the body number tag and carpet retaining brackets from the old floor
Cleaned them up and welded them back to the new floor
Next Job was the prep for the new outer sill to go on
Grinding the roller welds back and peeling the remains away
New jacking point was also added at this point before prepping and clamping the new outer sill on
Then welding it
And finishing up the repairs by making up a section of flitch and welding that into place
And of course the slinging bracket
That now completed the underside repairs
The next stage is to get the underside prepped and primed so that it can come off the rotisserie for the other body repairs to take place.
Cheers

Looking great Ben. Couple of Q's. The grommets/plugs that go in the footwell in the front of the car...do you use rubber ones or the original metal ones? What size are they? And how are they fitted if original style metal ones?
Cheers
Hiya and cheers.
I use these ones
http://www.minispare...|Back to search
And they are 1"
They come with a seal attached and they press into the holes and then need heating up with a hot air gun.
Once hot, they are then pressed down firmly and evenly with something suitable (I use a dolly) and this spreads the melted seal.
I'll demonstrate when I come to fit them.
Cheers.

Hope everything is ok regarding the family issue Ben,
wow great updates again.
I'm actually heading over to the Isle of wight this weekend well my ferry is at 3am tomorrow morning , I'm part of the takeover show, I would of bought over some bits but the car I'm taking isnt really pratical to carry the items you need, So ill drop them over at some other point in the sensible car.
I'll throw a side note in just in case your heading there on sunday I'll be in the bright orange wide subaru in front of one of the Trade stands unless they move me back with the rest of the group.

Cheers luke.
I might try to head out but the family emergency was my mum who has now had to come and stay with me here to be looked after so it depends on her needs.
No hurry for the bits just yet but will good to see you when you get over with them.
Thanks

Hope your Mum is okay Ben, best to you on looking after her..
Great progress on the mini, are you painting the mini aswell when the time comes?
Have you used etch primer for the underside and will you be using seam sealer on the major seams.
Thanks
Daz
Cheers Daz
Yes, I shall be painting this one. Hopefully jot too much longer for that now.
The underside is painted with epoxy primer and yes, the joins will be sealed up prior to applying further underbody coatings.
Cheers

Next on the agenda is the front end but there is plenty of things to do before I can start clamping panels on.
First of those is to prep the inner wings.
One side is damaged
So needs straightening
Then the inner wings can be cleaned up
Next up is to sort the rust on the bulkhead
Then bolt in the subframe
Now I can bolt the front panel to it
And then fit the bonnet.
However, the threads were severly damaged on the hinges so I removed the studs and replaced them
Then put the bonnet on
In order to try the wings, I need the a panels on but before that, the doors need fitting and aligning.
I sandblasted the hinges
And bolted them to the new doors
Before bolting them to the car and aligning them
Now the a panels can be aligned to the doors
And now I can clamp on the wings and align them
Cheers

Now I'm happy with the gaps, I can spot weld the wings to the front panel
And then pull it all apart again
