Looks amazing what's the horizontal bar in the passenger side door for?

Side impact protection bar, think the came in doors around '97

I thought that might be the case I guess it's a different year to the drivers side then?

Good idea to add to older doors as well possibly but fitting it without getting in the way of the window would be awkward surely

Great work as usual Ben, certainly am looking forward to seeing the exterior painted but It'll be like you say pictures are one thing but seeing it in person will be another level.

Well this has been a funny tomorrow....

 

All ready to paint for last Friday and I dropped the fluid tip for my basecoat gun during cleaning prior to painting causing damage to it.

Couldn't get another locally so had to order online.

Finally received it... wrong one.

 

By the time I finally received it, I decided that I should unmask the car and remask it as some of the tape and soft edge foam tape had started to lift.

 

Finally today, I could get the paint on!

Absolutely stunning colour choice, this Mini is going to look amazing especially with the wheels that Ben showed me a sneak preview of when I visited recently.

can I just ask a possibly stupid question but something I've always wondered, presumably you sprayed it with the doors and boot lid on, all in one piece so it matches perfectly and all that, but how do you get the paint into all the gaps like the door shuts, around the boot opening, all the inner bits of the boot hinge, the A pillar, etc

 

do you open everything up, mask it off and spray again

Ahhh right when I saw that before somehow I only saw the bit with the primer but not the colour
