Engine Swap Confusion

Feel a bit stupid asking this on here but I am getting more confused by the minute.
I understand about modifications and declaring them all. Got that.
But, and I keep getting differing information on Mr Google. If I changed the engine to a 1275 and it was properly done on the V5. The new V5 would just state 1275.
So once registered properly with DVLA and noted properly on the V5 the car would be a 1275 would it not?
So my confusion is ‘is this classed as a modification or not’, because in my simples mind the mini is registered and recorded as a 1275 and a 1275 it has in it.
If I left it on the V5 with the original engine capacity recorded on it and plonked a 1275 in it then yes I can see but not if the size matched that recorded.
I hope I have managed to explain it ok.
Any advice to sooth my troubled brain would be fab.
Cheers

Despite the V5C altered to give the correct CC, the car has been modified and therefor the insurance company must know.

I can see your confusion. You're changing from one standard engine to another - unlike swapping to a Honda/Yamaha/etc engine. But I believe it would still be classed as a modification as the 1275 is not what your car left the factory with.
You're far better off reporting everything because if bad things happen, insurance companies do like to wriggle out of payouts if they can.

For balance, it's generally because people aren't honest with them. It works both ways.

Had a funny feeling that would be it, but I remember years ago when I built a few trikes you used to go through many versions of the V5 to change it from a VW to a trike with what ever engine you wanted.
Then the final version was what you had and insured, then any modifications in the future were then based on the final description on the final V5.
Ha ha probably got it wrong all those years ago.
Still thanks for all your help.

DVLC, DVSA or whoever they are wanted to know so they could charge you the correct road tax. Your insurers evaluate their risk by the specific model. If you change the engine it's no longer has the same specification. An overbore (up to 60thou) should be ok as it's a manufacturer specified repair - same if Rover told us 998s were NLA & to use a 1275 instead. I seriously doubt they would've
