The Quaife ATB for the Mini sold by Swiftune and also sold through Mini Spares, is it different to the one supplied by Guessworks and some others?

I realise the ATB diff is for good for higher power output engine due to it strength and i believe it would also be good in wet weather.

Are there many on here who have them in their road or track going Mini?

If so, what do you think of it so far?

Would you install the ATB in your car again if you had the choice?

MED also do an ATB Diff

Have one in my Supercharged mini

I do a lot of track days and wouldn’t be without it.

Took a few weeks driving to get used to it though.

I have the Swiftune one in all my cars. They are all road cars, some with higher outputs and some stock.

Since trying my first about 12 - 15 years back, I'll never ever go back to an open diff. Never. Loved it from the first turn of the wheel after fitting it.

Only down side I found was the steering is heavier, but you soon get used to that.

Love my Swiftune ATB on my road/track day mini, wouldn't hesitate to fit another. Superior traction over open diff, really pulls the nose in tight to the apex when applying power and reduces brake lockup over bumpy Road surfaces.
Downsides- cost, slightly heavier steering and more likely to cause torque steer / weave if you have any dodgy suspension set up or wheel off set.

Swiftune are the agents for the Quaife Mini atb, hence Minispares selling it as a Swiftune/Quaife item. Non of

the other atb diffs are Quaife and won't have the Quaife lifetime warranty (others may have lifetime warranty?). If you want an atb then imo the Quaife is the only one to buy. The only time that I've ever heard any complaints about the Quaife diff is one someone should have bought a plate style lsd.

There is a chap out there that drags a turbo'd mini who has managed to twist the output shafts of the Quaife ATB, Quaife apparently would not warranty this. he's now swapped to the MED diff as its got thicker outputs.

realistically this probably won't affect 99.99% of people, but worth mentioning

I have a Quaife ATB fitted to my hillclimber.  I recently took it from a Rover Cooper I was using (sold the car) and put it in my new build Riley Elf.  On the first event something was not right and subsequent trips on the road confirmed this.

When the diff was returned to Quaife they were reluctant to repair it.  They said it was an older version and quite worn.  It was only after I kept reminding them that it had a lifetime warranty that they eventually repaired it. Even then it cost an extortionate amount for "postage etc".  They wanted me to buy a newer version.

The moral of this is beware of so called lifetime warranties.  The lifetime of what exactly?

Having said that the ATB is a great piece of kit.

I've not had cause to claim on Quaife, but did they say why they wouldn't cover it under warranty ?

Thank you all. A Quaife/Swiftune ATB it is then.

I noticed Quaife also make a quick steering rack for the Mini.

Is this the same as the 2.2 turns lock to lock one that Mini Spares sell?

My standard rack is a bit worn, so i was wondering about a new rather than rebuilt rack.

Is the quick rack suitable for road/enthusiastic driving?

Possibly too jittery on the motorway?

Why do you want a Quickrack? It will make the steering heavier and harder to control.

I dont know the details, but basically I think it was along the lines of "oh no it dosen't cover drag racing"

Quaife, "This makes the Quaife ATB limited slip differential a genuine ‘fit and forget’ upgrade that offers compromise-free performance and unbeatable reliability on the street, strip, stage or circuit, backed by a lifetime warranty.

It looks like both the Quaife and MED units offer the Lifetime Warranty.  The MED unit has a good looking spec and it is £25 cheaper :-)

  • Made from Japanese SAE 4320 & SAE 9310 Steel.
  • Forged, Double Tempered and Super Sub-Zero treated for unsurpassed toughness.
  • Advanced Shot Peening technology increases surface hardness.
  • Designed to withstand the extreme shock loads of competition-level drag racing.
  • Advanced gear geometry designed using industry-leading software puts more power to the ground.
  • Maintenance-free gears eliminate the need for special fluids and rebuilds associated with plate-type LSDs.
  • Lock-free operation ensures no adverse affect to steering response.

I couldn't see any material spec for the Quaife ATB
