Hi all,

I am looking at options for a rollover jig for my Minivan restoration and interested in your opinion on which is best.

ideally I need the option for it to lift the car onto the jig and also have casters

thanks in advance

Cheers Steve

I made one up out of a long scaffold pole, 4 scaffold clamps (2 for each A frame end and 2 to mount the car on) and some scrap dexion racking to make the A frames.  Cost me about a tenner for the clamps, that was my total outlay.

If you have a jig on castors it might cost more as you will need to link the front and rear A frames I think? - Mine was just sat on the floor.

I mounted it to the front bulkhead, it ran through the speedo hole, then had to cut a hole in the rear bulkhead and mounted it to the top of the shock mounts.

Welded an old knackered 1/2" socket to the end of the scaffold pole, then used a wrench and a 4 foot pole to rotate the car, balance was not perfect, but as you had resistance in the scaffold clamps it only swung madly about once or twice as I was trying to rotate it.

Hope that helps a bit.

I am going to need my rotisserie to be able to lift from the ground as I have no means of getting it onto a frame

sounds like your method was a good cheap option just unfortunately not for me

cheers

I got one of these:

I have been very pleased with it. You can spec it for a van and get lifting screws to lift the car from the ground to the required height.

Although, I bought two of these screws, one each end, but could have saved some money by buying one and swapping it to the other end.

I had one of these a few years ago, and it was brilliant.  It was for a saloon, but if they do the kit for the right body form, then it works perfectly.  You can also sell it back at the end of use to recover some money.

I have just bought one from this company but the new “Mini” design on castors and self loading that they have started selling. Bit pricey at over £500 delivered but a good piece of equipment especially for loading

As much as the initial otlay of cash now is maybe a set back in finances you can always sell it at the end of the bodywork completion..
Ttreat it like a loan.... i loan the car 500 quid for a rotissery...

Flog it on later... get your cash back...

Or buy another mini and do it all again.......

Maybe some on here for sale? Keep an eye out..

You can make our own for far less than a ready built example and if you are contemplating work or restoration requiring a roll over jig then you already have the skills required.

For my jig the A frames were being thrown out at work, 4 castors and two scaffold clamps from eBay and the planks and scaffold tube I already had.
By the way, I think castors are a must of any roll over jig.
Once finished with I sold it on to someone starting their own restoration.

I just lifted it up with a trolley jack and some axle stands.  All of them need a method of lifting the shell up to a height that makes full rotation possible.

Had a Mini Marcos years ago, it was so light you could pick the rear end up with one hand and no Wheatabix!  Lol
