Hi all, just got myself a 1978 Mini Van and I am having trouble getting a decent insurance quote for it.

I already have a 1978 Mini 1000 saloon insured with one call that I pay £66/yr for but the van seams to be much more to insure?

Also when I put the reg in on the insurance sites it comes up with saloon?  It definitely says van on the logbook and is a 3 owner from new with history so is definitely a van

Any ideas please

Thanks Steve

It may be because the van is worth more than the saloon or it may be because its technically a commercial vehicle, how much more are the quotes you are getting?

I've just had my renewals through for my cars and i'm paying around £130 for a MK2 jag valued at 40K and £60 for a MK2 Austing Healey Sprite valued at 8K both with Adrian Flux.

Difference in quotes is double for the van. V5 says car derived van. V5 still says PLG as I haven’t put it on the road yet

I think the 95 came out in 1978.  Mine is an early 78 van so probably not a 95

Give Lancaster a ring, they insure my van, very modified for around £100 a year (limited mileage).

I've just gone through the annual insurance renewal rigmarole.
Adrian Flux quoted me £185..... remember they charged me £95 a couple of years ago.
When I said I wasn't paying that they came back with £102 !!!
They don't half try it on but invariably they are the cheapest in the end

Sadly that's most insurers these days. However like many, I've found flux a nightmare in the past to claim from.

Apologies for the slightly off-topic question but with whom did you get your Mini 1000 insured with, for £66 per year?

Interesting, I've been with Flux for 3 years now and their renewal has always been the most competitive without having to threaten to go elsewhere. Mind you, mine's a commercial used as intended and modified, so most companies aren't interested.
