Indeed it does look incredible - real inspiration for us!

Newbie paint question - I've put new heritage front panels on an old (1992) shell and intend to paint the whole lot. I've read a lot about having to remove ALL paint so that new paint doesn't react. Obviously it would be easier for a DIYer like myself to sand the existing paint (not all the way back to metal) and remove the e-coat from the new panels (to metal) - a bit like you have done here.

I wanted to ask is there anything special about your high-build primer that will let you spray it over old paint, or is the risk of issues being overplayed in the stuff I'm reading.

thanks and sorry for the diversionary question in your thread  :whistling:

It all depends on what paint is already on the car.

In the case of this one, it was the original paint for the most part so there wasn't a lot of it.

In this case, we can use a self etching high build and that's enough.

If there is any suspect paint on there, remove it. If you aren't sure but think it's OK and don't want to risk reactions, apply a coat of isolator before your primer.

Hope that helps.

I don't jbow where he found then but the owner has a brand new set of the correct wheel trims.

Only trouble is, they are white and need to be silver

Those wheel trims look excellent. I love the standard look of the Mayfair.

I hope the owner of this car is as excited as I was as I anticipated another update from the IOW.

I love that you're restoring it so nicely but keeping it original. So many Mayfairs have been Cooperised, and the rest will have alloys, yours will be really nice and original and stand out.

Incidentally my mum had an 89 Racing Green with those wheel trims in white brand new, and they were very difficult to keep in good condition. They'd scratch easily, and putting them on without damaging the plastic clips was really difficult. The fact that I still remember this clearly 30 years later says a lot!!
