Hello,

I'm currently in the process of putting a zx10r engine in the front of my 74 clubman but having it as rwd. My question is around the rwd subframe. I know there are the minitec ones in america, but there are a few guys here in New Zealand that have had ALOT of issues getting them certified for road use aroudn the suspension geometry and paperwork from america. It will be easier to start with the known mini subframe/geometry

Has anyone here ever adapted a front subframe to fit in the rear? was this common fro speedway or some motorsport in the uk?

I'm planning on using coilovers, and the KAD 4 pots that can be split to use one as hyd handbrake and one as normal brakes.

I have found a few photos of a little kit that can be used to block the steering.

I was also just going to modify and strengthen the subframe to support a diff.

My thoughts are this could be done relatively cost effectively compared to the minitec ones as well.

Hopefully that makes sense. All thoughts are welcome,

Thankyou

Brendon

It's very common in the UK, lots of rear engined mini based kit cars used a front subframe - look at GTM as an example.

Also, John Cooper fitted a front subframe to the rear to make a twin engined mini, lots of pictures of that too.

Will you local regs allow another subframe?  The MGF one is popular too, not sure if it was shipped in any quantities to NZ.

The first thing I would do it talk to your local test people.

yes there are many many kit cars that run two front subframes. But what you need to find out what the issues the others are having. Is it different pick up points? Or is it changing the type of suspension?  Once you find out the issues you can plan around it.

Thanks DomCr250 will look into those options.

The last option I was looking at is just modifying the std rear subframe with a go for the main driveshaft, and similar for the axles with some custom chromoly arms which I'm happy enough to fab up. This option is sounding simpler the more I think about it.

I've taken the spare wheel well out so the is alot of room with a 30L fuel cell.
