Hi everyone, I'm going to modify my engine. I'm thinking about the following modifications:

Head 12g940:

Lightweight flyweel

Exhaust, manifold from minispares stage one kit RC40-10 - (that i already have) http://www.minispare...c/C-STN18E.aspx

Carb: HiF44, better needle

AIR filter: MED stub stack system with ITG filter

Electronic distributor 65D

pre verto clutch diaphragm orange

minispares clutch plate road/rally - C-AHT595

Facet fuel pump - standard 2.5-3.00psi

Is that a good choice? What power output i can expect? Would you change anything?

Thank you for your advice.

i'm not sure you'd really need to be using the orange diaphragm; the standard blue one should be up to the job if properly setup, and will be much kinder to the crankshaft thrust bearings/faces

Fast road and some amateur track days. Not daily car.

Wouldn't waste horsepower by fitting double springs. Std cam and final drive means it won't be reving any higher than std.

Air cleaner; I think that Vizard did some testing of air filters and had good results with the standard housing (drilled) and a K & N cone filter. Could save you some money. Disclaimer; I have the MED ITG filter and like it.

Roller Rockers; Not sure that the use of roller rockers are necessary for ‘fast road use and occasional track days’ but are fine for “pub points”. Send your rockers to AcDodd for evaluation/modification to an actual 1.3:1 ratio. You will appreciate the increased torque-makes driving the car more enjoyable without revving the nuts off.

Clutch diaphragm/disc; Blue dot should be fine for your use. That’s what I use for my 1360 engine that produces buckets of torque. It seems to me that one has to think about how the car will be used. Unless its a race engine, which is probably rebuilt on a regular basis, use of any ‘high performance’ parts isn’t necessary.

Distributor; I like the choice of the 65D distributor. One of the more knowledgeable contributors to this forum thinks that its the best for the A series engine. For more information, search this forum for use of coils with that distributor.

Camshaft; If you are looking for an increase in performance; consider camshaft, head, intake/exhaust (gas in-gas out). This forum has plenty of expertise to offer advice.

Keep us posted.

Someone will doubtless be along to correct me if wrong but I think the metro VDP engine was already fitted with the MG metro cam as standard....

You are correct the VDP Engine in 1275 form was the same as the MG Metro so good for around 72HP in standard form. The cam on that isn't too bad for road use, but I would go hotter if the car is only to used for fast road and track days.

Unfortunately, the earliest VDPs didn't have a cam and head like the MG Metro. And they produced I think around 60hp. (https://www.vpoc.inf...tro-vanden-plas)

My head has 33mm intake valves and 29mm exhaust valves. So I will be increasing the intake valves to 35.7mm. The exhaust will stay the same.

That might limit the gas-flow you are trying to improve with the head mods ..

The standard size exhaust valve will be fine. If you’re fitting a bigger inlet valve do yourself a favour and cut a multi angle valve seat and back cut the valve. This gives an excellent gain in airflow for the small amount of work/cost involved.

Phil.
