It might be worth investing in some good cavity wax and squirting it into as many seams and crevices as you can, to keep things ok until you want to do anything more major. Various opinions on here as to what's best but I like Bilt Hamber Dynax S50.

The car will now live in Los Angeles, parked indoors, with weekend use split between it and my 911. It won't see very much (if any rain), so the rust should hopefully not progress.

Fair enough! Though prevention is better than cure...

I agree, I'd also recommend that the rust (and the car checked for any hidden repairs) is dealt with ASAP so it doesn't get worse.

As for the knock ypu ideally need to get a pry bar to check for split mounts or snapped mounts

Well, since its arrival, I've only driven it a couple of times... Until last Sunday.  That is when I took it to Malibu Cars & Coffee and then the canyons of Malibu.  This thing is a riot. Totally different from my other cars (a Mk7.5 Golf GTI and a '95 Porsche 911), but in an amazing way.  A little tiny go-kart that leaves a nearly-permanent grin on one's face.

For those that know about Malibu Cars & Coffee (if you follow various SoCal based Instagrammers and podcasters), this one brings out powerhouse machinery.  Despite this, the Mini (the only Mini there, in a massive crowd of much more expensive machinery) constantly had people around it, taking pictures with it.  In fact, given that Minis just aren't as prevalent here as they are in the UK, both gas (petrol for you guys) station trips so far have involved conversations with curious individuals.  Various people take pics of it at intersections.  I even had an elderly gentleman pull up next to me in Beverly Hills and wax poetic about the memories of his 1960s Mini.

Great photos, thanks for sharing them!

I once parked my mini next to a 1920s Bugatti T35 at a rally in France. The mini genuinely got as much attention and questions as the T35. Amazing how they appeal wherever in the world they are.

You've got yourself a decent Mini there. The rust is minimal in terms of most Mini's. Others have provided sound guidance on the knocks.
It's worth jacking it up and checking the rear end, and rear arches for rust as that is where a lot of salt and grit can collect. If it's solid there, then you have a decent car. If not, then it's actually not a massive job to repair.
Enjoy that wee beauty.

All that sunshine can't be healthy, guess those accessory lights must've come in handy for flashing the Ferraris to let you pass on the twisties,  :mrcool:
