Hi
I've posted a couple of pics in the Introduce yourself section, but Im now starting work on one of the two MK1's
I've acquired so I thought Id start a thread here.
Short background, I've got two MK1's 850's, LHD, bought from Finland. Im in Estonia.
One of them has been dismantled but appears complete apart from the rear subframe (no surprise there!)
The other is complete, apart from a missing voltage regulator.
Both cars could be classed a shed finds and have been dry stored for a long time, possibly 30 years.
Neither has been restored.
Starting on the stripped one first as its in pretty good condition, its never been welded/restored and appears to have a genuine miles 37000 miles.
The sills only have some small holes on the top but one of the rear sections is bad, one wing is needed along with small sections of the front floors, and the battery box. The A panels are solid!
Plan is to do a full restoration back to factory spec, no mods. I've ordered a Heritage Certificate, they have already given me the engine number to confirm it matches the VIN.
Id like to keep the wet suspension if possible.
I removed the head today just to check the bores, no ridges at all on the bores and the pistons are standard incl the factory matching letters on the pistons and block deck.
Ideally I don't want to re-bore it but Im replacing the pistons anyway so I may do it.
I suspect the crank will also be ok.
One of the doors is perfect, the other has a rusty bottom, I may repair it or "borrow" a door from the complete one which has two good doors.
Im media blasting the shell etc soon, so Ill post some "after" pics.
I can source new parts from Finland or the UK. Repair panels are made in Finland.
Couldn't help but do a clean up of the brake balance valve and the carb! Looks nice, only needed a needle valve!
