it was made for 2 or 3 years for the clubman,so bit rare now.
I think it could be an overbored A+ 998cc or it is an A-series 1098cc.
Anyway as it is rare I'd go for the rebuild.
Advice : open the pictures in Paint, save it as jpg. This will reduce the file size.

There’s a lengthy discussion about this on the MK1 forum, but no definitive proof. Could be A+ 998 block with a A 1098 crank?

They were made for 2 or 3 years as the changeover from a to A+ happened, fitted in the clubman i think,
My clubman estate has one - definitely an A+, definitely genuine 1100cc

I have a 1098 engine 10H791 AA and it is A series. No Z on mine though just the numbers after the AA.

Valuation wise if it's in bits and needs a rebuild maybe £150 at a big push?
It's a stroked 998 and they are at most worth may £150 if complete and sitting on a box.

The difference between the 998 and 1098 is the crank and pistons. Rods are the same. A viable, cheaper alternative to a 1275. You'll have more power than a 998 in standard for and with a decent head and cam you can expect in the region of 70bhp. These engines are increasing in value so I think £150 is on the low side.
