When i wire the tacho , it stops the engine ... it does with the 2 tachos  ( !!!  ??? )

Could you tell me if i do the good wiring ?

Hope this helps, I found it on the web.

It seems your +12V (power in)  and the wire to ignition switch is connected togehter, it could be the fault.

"BOBINA" means the coil in spanish, so it is OK.

I believe that brown wire should go to the positive side of the coil, not negative.

For negative earth, the negative side of the coil goes to the distributor.

The plug as delivered should work for the positive feed.  It gives power to the tacho, and power through to the coil.

The + side of the coil is the input. Taqchometer can not "work" with a stable +12V.

The - side of the coil gives an intermittent signal towards the distributor. This signal has a frequency proportional to the enginge rpm. That signal is transformed to RPM inside the tacho.

On your picture there is two white wire. Those two white wire connected to each other a the middle terminal. At least it looks like this for my point of view. See orange circle

I think these should NOT connected to each other.

Or this  ;D

Use the top right drawing.

The dashed line is a White/Black wire beetween the negative terminal on the coil and the distributor.

You have to cut that W/B wire and connect the two "new" end to the tacho's male and female connector - B and C on the drawing.

Teminal 'A' is for the permament +12V

Note : if your Mini has electronic ignition then RVI tacho will not work. You'll need RVC tacho.

This is an RVI rev counter ,the loom is correct.

The red wire comes from the ignition switch and powers the tacho and the coil.

The brown wire goes to the coil +.

You must disconnect the white wire 12+ already at the coil.

If you have a ballast coil it is more complicated.

If you already stopped the engine when you connected it you may have damaged the points or electronic ignition with a short circuit

The - side of the coil gives an intermittent signal towards the distributor. This signal has a frequency proportional to the enginge rpm. That signal is transformed to RPM inside the tacho.

What you described is for RVC which samples the voltage at the switched side of the coil.

RVI is wired in series to the supply side of the coil, and samples the current pulses not the voltage.

So just remove the white +ve ignition feed wire from the coil, and connect your brown wire to the coil +ve terminal instead.

Then connect the red wire to ignition switched +12v and the green/yellow to chassis ground.
