it looks like E10 fuel has eaten the rubber on my braided fuel pipe of my twin 1 1/4 SU carbs, fitted new 18 months ago as part of JCG conversion.

Car is now leaking petrol over the manifold !.

Need to buy replacement, does anyone know what diameter I need ?

It measures 1/2 inch externally- but is the measurement the internal bore ?

thanks

I used 1/4 inch ID on my HS4s (7mm is close but slightly too loose IMO so if the clamp fails or stretches then fuel leaks).

If the fuel hose is tight to go on heat it up in a cup of hot water.

Hope this helps

6mm is what I use with 1/4 in fuel hard line and 10 -12 mm fuel clips

I use Cupro lines or Copper , and with these I put a slight flare to make the hose "Catch" better

Just a personal choice. I also try to keep the rubber lines shorter rather than longer, and avoid bends, so the E10 petrol has less to attack

Straighter the rubber, the better.

Additionally, rubber is not as good as it used to be, from the day it is made, it starts deteriorating

I would not recommend braided fuel lines after a similar failure, you cannot see what is happening until it fails,Steve.

Don't think anywhere has E10 in UK yet ... but the ethanol in E5 was probably a factor

It is appearing but E5 ,as you say, will do the same.

All UK pump petrols have ethanol.

Replace hose with R14.

Apparently not Esso Supreme99+ .. although is may say 5% on the pump they claim is contains zero ethanol .. the law is UP TO 5% or 10% apparently.

Gates has a range of ethanol-proof fuel hose to SAE 30R14T

Carb:

4219BG Barricade™ Carbureted Engines Fuel Hose | Gates Corporation

Fuel Injection:

4219BF Barricade® GreenShield® Fuel Hose | Gates Corporation

Moss list a Gate product line but not fully clear which line it is

Yes and no, Esso Supreme does contain ethanol in certain parts of the country. See the vague and pretty unhelpful answer to their faq below.

https://www.esso.co....n-gb/fuels-faqs

Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 contains zero ethanol, except (for logistics reasons) sites supplied from Scotland, North Wales, North England and Cornwall.

Am i missing something ?
