Hopefully it’s the other way round - the one top left going to the coil (an unfused ignition live) and the one top right going to Rev counter power feed (a fused ignition live)

Correct - it is the other way round. Red wire goes to coil and green goes to the rev counter.

Do I put the rev counter illumination wire to bottom right of fuse box?

Yes.  If in doubt, check that terminal with a multimeter or even a test lamp

Learning all the time....is that how it works then, unfused goes left side of fuse box and fused go to the right side?

Usually, but not guaranteed!

Using the (standard) wiring colours:

White is unfused ignition live

Brown is unfused permanent live

Light green/ white is unfused Accessory live
Red is unfused lighting live

there isn't a lot that's fused then?

So many questions!!....

What sort of things get fused....from previous posts obviously the rev counter power does?

1 on the fuse box is unfused? But 2 on the fuse box is fused?

Yes - the unfused feed voltage goes into 1, through the fuse and out at 2

Just niticed something when I've gone to put the switch back in its correct position and the switch plate back on. When (the unused) terminal 7 on the bottom of the switch(from the diagram in the link that ethel posted on the 12th oct) touches anything metal it sparks and crackles....please help.

It will because it's common with  terminal 1.

You could swap it with whichever terminal terminal you're using for the side lights. 7 would become that feed you wanted for dash illum, but you'd be lacking the fuse you get from tapping the fusebox or an existing instrument bulb holder.

All the  spare terminals will be live in one switch position or another, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to give them a wrap of insulation tape.

The switch I swapped over was wrapped around the perimeter with tape.

So, pretty much, its normal? Best and easiest option, just wrap the switch in insulating tape and leave things as they are??

Yes, logically they wouldn't be there if they couldn't be made live at all.

It'd be a bit less messy & more accessible to wrap the spades, or plug on some spare insulated terminals - at least you'll remember where you put them!

The switch panel looks to be incorrect or a very poor fit.Relying on tape to prevent your car setting on fire is possibly unwise.Steve..
